As I explored the story of Andromeda I kept thinking of all the other princesses who crossed paths with heroes, dragons, monsters. Many of the women in history have been passed down to us as nameless images. Often recording in relation to their husbands, fathers or macabrely the monsters that devoured them. Dissecting sections of other drawings I etched them into the background of this piece, representing the sense of time, place and shift. Each nameless woman becomes another as each monster shifts from dragon to baselisk, sea monster to winged demon. The focus is on what is not written or seen, the invisible weight of nameless characters propelling stories onward.
