This drawing is inspired by the mythology surrounding the Garden of Eden. I imagined a different world in which the Dragon and the Serpent were interchangeable. As humanity fell so did the dragons. The fiery sword that guards the entrance to Paradise is shown here behind the dragons, as they circle around the trees hurtling towards Earth. The leaves falling and the fruit clutched by the dragons symbolises their plight. The drawing is to illicit an empathy in the viewer towards the Dragon, a powerful mystical creature now doomed to extinction. I work primarily in pen and ink on rag paper, creating intricate details with a 0.05mm nib. My practice is currently focussed on an exploration of the George and The Dragon folklore, through an environmental and feminist lens. In many ways the Dragons in this series symbolise the alternative aspects of our human selves, just as George represents the best face we display to the world.
