Part of the Heart Heroes series this study explores the life of heart patients after they stop being heart patients - post transplant. Its a big shift in identity as the challenges change rather than disappear. It's also a time of immense hope when a donor match is found and the transplant succeeds. The mauve and violet palette used are to create an ethereal glow in this study of the model. With a crocheted blue hydrangea flower in her hair (hand made by the model) it's a celebration of life post heart transplant. The blue hydrangea is in memory of a friend who passed, throughout the painting the blue creeps in to bring that sense of harmony. When dressing the model I used a dazzling gold sequined sash to bring that blaze of light down on a diagonal. It meant that her face was illuminated with tiny dots of bright light and the symbolism of that really appealed to me.
